Penumba (2022)

37.5 x 37.5 x 35cm

Resin, pigment, acrylic

The latest in a series of vessel sculptures - which began as an exploration of natural water as pure colour phenomena. Originally tested using water, salt and pigment, 'Penumbra' takes things further by layering the densities of pigment within resin to create a suspended form within the cube which can only be perceived from certain angles. The unique refractions of a clear cylinder show its entire surroundings within each one so the form can only be perceived when they align. This fleeting apparition alludes to the dynamism of water and its preciousness as a resource - something fundamental to my practice
